Marie – happy recipient of Svedea’s motorcycle scholarship

All About Bikes was present at the Motorsport Show in Karlstad when a delighted Marie Jonsson received Svedea’s motorcycle scholarship.

It all began when Marie, who lives in Karlstad, grew tired of sitting on the back of a motorcycle. She decided she wanted to ride herself and headed to GMC in Karlstad to buy a motorcycle. Among her dreams was a trip to Norway. Encouraged by her father, who also rides and bombarded Marie with links to suitable bikes, she decided on a Kawasaki Versys 650. Ulf Olsson, a salesperson at GMC Karlstad, not only helped Marie with her motorcycle purchase but also tipped her off about Svedea’s motorcycle scholarship.

“It was one of those nights when I couldn’t sleep. So, I started googling a bit and came across Svedea’s scholarship. I thought, oh well, I’ll just write something,” Marie says, adding that she was both surprised and nervous when she found out she had advanced to the interview stage.

The scholarship, worth 20,000 SEK, is aimed at anyone over the age of 20 who wants to obtain a motorcycle licence. The application process is no small feat – every year, thousands of applications are submitted from across Sweden. Svedea’s jury carefully reviews all entries and selects ten finalists for interviews. From there, six winners are chosen, and in 2024, Marie was one of the lucky ones!

“The interest in the 2024 motorcycle scholarship has been record-breaking, with nearly 4,000 applicants. We’re quite confident that the campaign has reignited dormant dreams for many who will pursue their licence anyway,” says Stefan Karlsson, Business Manager for Motorcycles at Svedea.

We wish Marie the best of luck with her new licence and motorcycle and hope she enjoys many wonderful miles on the road!
